What they said – Moto 3 / 125GP

We spoke to the top three riders in the Moto 3 / 125GP category at the opening round of the 2015 ASBK Championship, and here is what they had to say about their weekends.

Olly Simpson – 1st overall (1st, 1st, 1st)

“It always feels good winning races. I made an awesome start throughout every single race and managed to pull a gap, so I was happy with those results.

“It was a good warm up for the Red Bull Rookies Cup which is coming up on March 27.

“You just have to learn to deal with the added pressure. It’s not really pressure, it’s good fun having people smile at you and seeing people around the paddock like all the marshals and talking to them and giving speeches, stuff like that.

“I like it and I think it helps me with my racing and keeps me motivated so it’s good fun.

“We’ll see at the end of this year if I can make it back down to Phillip Island because I think the series in Spain and there may be a clash.

“So we’ll see what we can do because then hopefully I’ll be able to do the wildcard here as well around the Phillip Island circuit which is the best track in the world.

Matt Barton – 2nd Overall (2nd, 2nd, 2nd)

“We’re really pleased. We know that Olly’s not going to be doing the rest of the rounds, so these are really the other guys that I wanted to beat and so we achieved that.

“I pulled out a bit of a points gap ahead of the other riders so that’s really what we had to do going into the next round.

“We’ll be updating our kit throughout the year; something a bit more similar to Olly’s KTM, but we’ll see what happens.

“I just hope he comes out for the next round at Phillip Island, and hopefully we can have a bit more a dice and see who comes out on top.

“I’ve ridden Morgan Park a couple of times and had some good wins up there and some good battles up there, but obviously that was a few years ago and this is a whole different breed that are coming through so we’ll see what happens next round.

Ted Collins – 3rd Overall (4th, 6th, 3rd)

“There was a lot of drama this weekend, but with the racing we got there and it was a good battle that last one.

“I tried to start making a plan in that last race, but then a few of us were that close and different things were happening every lap.

“I couldn’t make a plan, so I just went with it and tried everything I could to pull away, but there is no pulling away from those guys because they are pretty quick.

“It’s a good feeling. I didn’t really know how this weekend was going to go and we were just playing it by ear but I am very happy with how I finished.”
