NameTristan Vercoe
NicknameTrissy (thanks Mum!)
Age and Birthday30 – 05/09/1989
Hometown/StateCurrently in Brisbane but home is where the Navy sends me
FamilyI come from a small, close knit family from Canberra. No partner or children
Describe yourself in 10 wordsFun loving, thrill seeking, people lovin’ larikin
What is your worst habit?Definitely love a good pick of a wedgie in public
What was your debut year in ASBK?2020
What bike/team did you ride for in 2019?First year of motorcycle racing and was with the Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland
What bike/team/class are you competing in in 2020?I am racing as The Motorcycle Sportsmen of QLD R3 Club Pilot for 2020 in the SSP300 and R3 Cup. Sporties is the major sponsor with the following contributing either to the program or myself: Race Art Australia, Buddha’s Motorcycle Spray Painting, Pirelli, Ricondi Motorcycle Apparel, Cube Performance Centre, ART, Mick’s Fix Leather Repairs, Motul, AGV Helmets, TCX Focus on Boots, XXX Rated Race Suspension, HiFlo Oil Filter’s, Ferodo Racing, RK Excel, Vortex, Billetta imports, Demon Demolitions, 131 202 Racing
What does your training regime look like as you prepare for ASBK 2020?I love fitness and training so have had fun experimenting with different exercise programs and food intake. I have just been hitting the gym and spending as much time on a motorbike as possible! I love my road riding and although I don’t ride fast on the streets it still keeps you in touch
Worst thing about training? What exercises do you hate doing? Not a fan of running, my poor knees!
Are you a former Australian Champion in any discipline?Former Australian champ in competitive sardine eating. I was trying to continue with it this year but something about the running of it smelt a bit fishy.
Are you involved in any other sports or activities? Not at the moment but have played all sorts of sports my whole life
Have you ridden overseas?No
Are you planning to ride overseas in 2020?No
Fun or interesting fact about yourself?I physically can’t burp. I also can’t whistle. Basically a complete disappointment to the family name
What’s your favourite thing about ASBK?The racers are people you can connect with and relate to.
The racing is close and some exciting characters. In the Brisbane area Mike Jones and his family have such a presence in the bike scene and are so humble. It makes the average punter like myself feel part of it.
Favourite ASBK track?Morgan Park, have to love your home track
Who is going to be your strongest competition in 2020?Being honest, every single one of those crazy whipper snappers getting around out there. Going to feel like Ricky Bobby in his comeback drive.
What are your expectations for 2020?To learn a lot. I’m not expecting podiums, but am holding myself to the expectation that I will improve dramatically by years end. The final round at PI will be a good yardstick. And of course to have bulk laughs, smile and have a blast.
What is the one thing you can’t do without on race weekend? My sandwiches. I make the best sandwich this side of the Laxey Wheel and spend most of my race thinking about that killer sambo waiting for me at the line. I challenge anyone in the paddock to make a better sandwich than me!
What song/music genre do you listen to or routine yuou do to getinto the ‘zone’ before a race?I’m a pretty hypo person and often think I should try to chill out a bit before the race and listen to something soothing, so I put on The Offspring. It does the opposite but it’s much more often
Do you ride in any other discipline and how does this help with your racing?I wish! Hopefully I can find more time then I can get into enduro properly
Who is your sports idol? And why?My cousin Patrick. He was in the Paralympic Soccer Squad for years. He’s a bloody hard worker and doesn’t give up on anything in life. I always interpreted his attitude and behaviour as ‘if you want something work for it’.
That, and his gentlemanly/ sportsmanship qualities. Be polite to others competing and especially respectful of officials, they’re what allow you to do what you do. Top bloke Pat..
What social media platforms do you use?Facebook – Tristan Vercoe Racing
