WARNING: Motor Racing is DANGEROUS – all persons attending do so entirely at their own risk. It is a condition of entry that all persons having any connections with the promotion &/or conduct of the meeting, including the owners of the land, & the riders & owners of vehicles & passengers in the vehicles, are absolved from liability arising out of accidents causing damage or personal injury to spectators or ticket holders except where due care & skill has not been exercised.
Wakefield Park Raceway is one of the shortest tracks on the ASBK schedule with just 2.2km of tarmac. However, what it lacks in overall distance, the track makes up in technical challenges, with a combination of tight corners, short straights and numerous bumps this is a venue that is physically demanding on riders and sorts the men from the boys.
Wakefield is as tough on the mechanics as it is the riders, who strive to provide the best setup capable but ultimately are looking for the best compromise. Its short and sharp nature means that drive is a key focus from the bottom end, so gearing is critical. Combined with short straights getting this right means a bike lacking top end can still set the pace.
The tight twisty nature combined with the scattered bumps means that a rider needs agility without compromising stability otherwise there’s no guarantee they stay on the track.
Wakefield always provides plenty of action for the fans, and this starts from the first run through turn one – the combination of hard breaking and a single line into turn two means every motorcycle mounted vulture is fighting for the same piece of tarmac and some often don’t make it through the sequence unscathed.
Racing is tough at Wakefield with every pass requiring serious commitment, which often results in great action for the spectator who can see everything from any point around the venue.
