Allerton, Collins out, Morris in for Maxima BMW at Morgan Park

Maxima BMW Team Manager Wayne Hepburn has confirmed today that regular riders Glenn Allerton and Ted Collins will not be competing at Round 4 of the 2019 Motul Pirelli Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK, July 5-7) due to injury.

Following a two-day test at the Southern Downs circuit earlier this week, the Victorian-based team made the tough decision to bench their two regular riders, who have been under an injury cloud since the last round of the ASBK at The Bend in April.

“Both Glenn and Ted gave it their all (at the test), but I could see they were not ready to deliver what they and Next Gen Motorsports consider acceptable and safe,” said Hepburn.

“Obviously it’s understandable that Glenn and Ted were devastated. However, being the professionals that they are, they both agreed with my decision to have them miss this round making sure they are strong enough for round five at Winton at the start of September.”

The BMW squad had announced earlier this month that Newcastle-based Aaron Morris would slot into the team in a one-off appearance at Morgan Park, but hopes that the team would be able to field a three-rider contingent in Queensland were dashed after a tough test for both Allerton and Collins. Morris now finds himself as the sole Maxima BMW representative in the field, and both he and the team report that they are finding confidence in the lead-up to the event.

“Aaron and the team were happy with the progress and are excited to have him race the BMW S1000RR at Morgan Park next weekend,” said Hepburn. “Above all, it made me proud that both Glenn and Ted wanted to be at Morgan Park to support the team and Aaron in any way they could.”
