ASBK ’22: GOING DOWN TO SYMMONS PLAINS!

The mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) presented by Motul will see the teams cross Bass Straight in October 2022 as we head to Symmons Plains Raceway near Launceston for Round Six of the ASBK Championship.

The event will be held at the Symmons Plains venue- Tasmania’s premier motorsport location- from the 20th – 23rd of October for a four-day event that includes a practice day on the Thursday.

Symmons Plains Raceway is situated some 30km south of Launceston and the spectacular Tamar Valley. The circuit itself is the shortest on the ASBK calendar but offers an incredible variety of racing packed into its 2.41 kilometers with the turn four hairpin a huge challenge and overtaking opportunity, while turn five has always been a difficult proposition for the riders as they spend a lot of time on the right-hand side of the tyre at high speed.

For Motorcycling Australia CEO, Peter Doyle, the return to Tasmania represents another step towards a balanced ASBK in 2022: “It’s great to be back in Tasmania for a number of reasons but we’re particularly pleased to be racing at Symmons Plains for the first time in several years. This event will showcase our sport to the fans in Tasmania and show that we are back to a truly national ASBK Championship in 2022.

“Seeing this event on the calendar is the end of a long process that ought to have seen us in Tasmania during season 2021, but for obvious reasons, we were unable to make it. In 2022, Symmons Plains will be round six and by Sunday night post-event, there will be just two rounds to go, meaning this round will be key to shaping the run to the finale.

“We’d encourage fans from the mainland to head down to the event and spend some time enjoying the great roads, views, places and hospitality that Tasmania has to offer!”

Supported by Events Tasmania, the ASBK Championship event will see Australia’s fastest two-wheel riders go head-to-head in the Alpinestars Superbike, Motorsport TV Supersport, Dunlop Supersport 300 and Yamaha Finance R3 Cup classes.

The 2022 mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul  round will be held at Symmons Plains, Tasmania from 20th-23rd October, 2022.
