ASBK ’22: PHILLIP ISLAND HITS THE STARTER BUTTON ON SEASON ’22

The world-renowned Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit will open the 2022 mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul (ASBK) in every way with the Official ASBK Test 27-28 January leading in to round one just a few weeks later 26 – 27 February, 2022.

The Official ASBK Test kicks off on the 27th of January with all teams permitted to attend. The Official ASBK Test is the last chance for teams and riders to have a solid hit out at the Phillip Island circuit to prepare for the coming full season, and make final preparations for round one of the mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul.

Today, the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit is best known as a world class circuit that is a favourite with the world’s best riders. Phillip Island has hosted a number of historic racing events with Australia’s very first International Motorcycle Grand Prix held there in 1989. The Superbike World Championship followed shortly after, moving to Phillip Island in 1990.

For ASBK competitors, racing and winning at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circle is always significant, no matter what the state of the championship. You can turn around a poor season with a win at “The Island” and we’ve seen many victories turn into season-changing and indeed life-changing moments. The fast and flowing circuit gives every rider the opportunity to measure themselves against the country’s and indeed world’s best.

Motorcycling Australia (MA) CEO Peter Doyle: “It’s great to not only see the ASBK Championship back on track in 2022, but we think that kicking off at Phillip Island with the Alpinestars Superbikes as the lead category at our standalone round is a terrific way for the fans, industry, sponsors, teams and riders to get into gear into 2022.

“Phillip Island is an icon of the sport and I’d like to thank the management at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit for working with us to formulate what will be a lively start to the season in 2022.”

David Bennett, General Manager – Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit “We’re excited to welcome the Australian Superbike Championship back to Phillip Island to kick off the 2022 season.

“We’ve been looking forward to this event for a long time and I’d like to thank MA and ASBK management for working with us to bring a much-needed economic boost to the Island economy.”

The Official ASBK Test is from 28-29 January followed by round one 26 – 27 February, 2022. For more information see the championship website www.asbk.com.au
