Bayliss and Wilson Fastest as Sidecars take to Wakefield Park

Round 2 of the Motul Pirelli Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) played host to the first round of the 2019 Horsell Consulting F1 and F2 Sidecar Championship at Wakefield Park, Goulburn, NSW (March 22-24). The action kicked off today for the first of the practice sessions for these eye-catching machines, with defending titleholders Howard Ford and passenger Lee Menzies (California Custom Products, F1 LCR Suzuki) aiming to get their title defence off to the best possible start.

Steven Bayliss and passenger Aaron Wilson (F1 LCR Suzuki) claimed fastest in both practice sessions, setting a 1:07.243 in Free Practice 2 to go fastest for the day. Defending champions Ford and Menzies came in second place, clocking a 1:08.211 and coming in almost a second behind the leading outfit. 

Jeremy Joyce and Corey Blackman’s F1 Kawasaki RHR machine finished in third place with a 1:08.431, improving from their 1:11.187 from the first session. First of the F2 class sidecars was the combination of Bruce Collins and passenger Peter DeAngelis (F2 Honda LCR), coming in fourth ahead of Mick Alton and Christine Clancy (J&C Contracting, F2 Shellbourne Honda 1:09.346), and Patrick Clancy with passenger Stephen Bonney (Pagid Brakes, F2 Suzuki LCR 1:09.655) rounding out the top six.
