Ford And Menzies Get The Jump In F1 And F2 Sidecars

It’s a welcome return to the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK) paddock for the Horsell Consulting Australian Sidecar Championship at the Spokes.com.au presents Round 6 Winton Motor Raceway. Howard Ford and Lee Menzies (California Customs, LCR Suzuki GSXR1000) have set the early pace in the first sidecars round with ASBK since Round 2. 

Ford and Menzies clocked a fastest lap of 1:35.065 to lead the way in the F1, whilst in F2 Terry Goldie and Jamie Crass (LCR Honda CBR 600) registered the quickest lap, a 1:35.513.

Just behind the pair ahead and also in the 1:35’s region was Dave Boughen and Robbie Shorter (LCR Suzuki GSXR 1000), who were just three tenths off the pace of Goldie and Crass, with a 1:35.855.

Beau Beaton and YMI Superbike competitor Corey Turner (K.H Equipment, Irving Vincent F1 1300) would end free practice with the fourth fastest time, a 1:36.115.

Rounding out the top five would be Mick Alton and Christine Clancy (LCR Suzuki GSXR 600) with their best of 1:36.504, but the pair have great experience and will be a contender throughout the weekend.

The pairing of Noel Beare and Declan Beare (Beare Boys Racing, Alvin Suzuki GSXR 1000) put in a solid days riding throughout practice and ended the day in sixth with a best lap of 1:37.349.

In seventh position was Jeff Brown and Darren Sheldrick (APW M-Cycles, JBR Suzuki GSXR 1000) after putting in a best lap of 1:37.487 over the three practice sessions.

Just behind Brown and Sheldrick was John Clancy and Warren Grubb (Golden Age Homes, Shelb Honda CBR 600) as their lap of 1:38.068 was enough for eighth fastest.

The top ten was rounded out by Patrick Clancy and Stephen Bonney (Pagid Racing, Shelb Honda CBR 600) in ninth with a 1:38.345, whilst just behind them was Richard Goodale and Scott Goodale (Shelb Honda CBR 600) in tenth after clocking a 1:39.360.

The sidecars paddock will be back on track with tomorrow’s qualifying session at 10:45am and then it all comes down the important first race at 4:05pm
