Sidecar Spectacular at Winton Motor Raceway

Winton Motor Raceway was treated to top notch racing from the Horsell Consulting Australian Sidecar Championship which has joined the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK) for the Spokes.com.au presents Round 6 Winton Motor Raceway. Taking victory for the F1 class was Dave Boughen / Robbie Shorter (F1, LCR Suzuki GSXR 1000) and Mick Alton / Christine Clancy (J&C Contracting, F2 LCR Suzuki GSXR 600) for the F2’s.

Race One quickly got underway at 4:05pm on the start grid. The F1 and F2 class machines launched from the starting grid positions. Sidecar duo Neil Turner / Danyon Turner (Rock Oil Racing, F1 JBR Suzuki GSXR 1000) were given a 10 second penalty for a jumped start.

The fastest lap of the race went to Boughen and Shorter with a time of 1:32.999, who crossed the finish line in first position.

Alton commenting; “It was good fun! I actually had a problem where my glasses fell down and I couldn’t see anything. Chrissie is carrying an injury at the moment and we’re in this for the long haul. You have to look after your passenger and allow them to do their job.”

Clancy sharing; “It’s a real physical track Winton, especially because I’m carrying an injury with my calf muscle. There have been times where I’ve tapped in a few times to let Mick know that I’m feeling it.”

Boughen saying; “The plan was to sit behind Howard until the final lap and make the pass under the breaks. It’s coming together and we got it done!”

Shorter explained; “Dave asked me to come from New Zealand and represent this year. We had a great round at Morgan Park and we’ve kept it up here. The plan was to put pressure on after a bad start and run a tactical race. Thanks to Winton for putting on a great event!”

Stay tuned for Races Two and Three tomorrow of the Australian Sidecar Championship at 12:25pm and 3:45pm at the Spokes.com.au presents Round 6 Winton Motor Raceway.
