Toparis moving up to a Superbike in 2024 ASBK Championship

By MA Media 0

Tom Toparis’ partnership with Stop & Seal Racing will go to a new level in 2024 with news he will contest a full season in the Superbike class of the mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul.

Having contested a full season of the British Supersport Championship in 2023 where he finished third before returning to Australia for the final two rounds of the ASBK Championship at Phillip Island and The Bend, the 23-year-old is now ready to take the next step in his motorcycle racing career.

Additionally, Toparis aims to contest selected rounds of the 2024 Supersport World Championship.

“I really appreciate the opportunity that Stop & Seal has provided me this year to both race a Superbike and support me on the world stage,” he said. “I’m motivated to give them the best results possible and I’m excited to hop on the Stop & Seal Superbike.

“The last two rounds in 2023 demonstrated how dedicated everyone is around me to be successful and I’m looking forward to start hitting the track with the team and getting up to speed.”

Toparis is expected to start the season on the Yamaha YZF-R1M, but it’s unclear if the Japanese machine will be his permanent mount.

Stop & Seal Team owner Robbie Bolger is delighted to be playing a part in Toparis’ career progression.

“While Tom is doing quite well overseas, it’s difficult for the next generation of riders to secure rides without paying and once you start down that path, it’s difficult to break the cycle and turn the tables to become a paid rider,” he said. “By committing to race a superbike in ASBK, we can continue Tom’s progression as a rider, and I hope we can secure some wildcard rides to prove his worth on the international stage.”

The team is set to get back on track soon to continue preparations for the seven-round ASBK season, with a new teammate for Toparis still to be locked in to compete in the Supersport class.

The first round of the 2024 mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul will take place on February 23-25 at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit alongside the Superbike World Championship opener.
