‘Superbike Masters’ Screams Around Phillip Island

The Superbike Masters class has brought historic action to life here at the Spokes.com.au presents Round 7 Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. Race one was run and won by Aaron Morris (C & M Motorcycles, Yamaha FZR 1043) who converted his pole position to great effect. The crowd was definitely excited to hear the sounds of these bikes of a bygone era in the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK). Dominating the race were the classic Yamaha’s, taking the top five positions.

From the get go there was drama as Justin Mellrick (Mellerick Drainage, Honda CBR 1200) was imposed a 10 second grid penalty for jumping the start. It also didn’t take long for Morris to assert his dominance and claim an impressive 6.677 second victory. He also managed the snare the fastest lap of the race, a 1:37.510.

Adrian Digiandomenico (Wurth Australia, Yamaha FZR 1000) chased Morris as best as he could but he was simply no match for his rival and would have to settle for second.

Jason Cullen (Shock Treatment, Yamaha FZR 1000) joined them on the podium a further 11.149 seconds behind the leader.

Stephen Kairl (Denis Brown, Yamaha TZ 750) and James Agombar (Denis Brown, Yamaha TZ 750) finished a distant fourth and fifth.

Make sure to tune into ASBK Live Stream tomorrow on ASBK.com.au to catch all of the historic action of the Superbike Masters at 10:10am and 3:35pm.
