Team Suzuki ECSTAR Australia Back In The Battle

Team Suzuki ECSTAR Australia once again were in the battle for line honors at round six of the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul Pirelli (ASBK) in Winton Victoria. A 2-2 results saw Josh Waters second overall, while for Markus Chiodo, 6-DNF gives the rookie 14th for the weekend.

Team Owner Dale Brede: “A huge thanks to the entire Team Suzuki ECSTAR Australia crew and all our supporters. It was a great feeling in the garage to have not only Josh but also Mark on the pace heading into the weekend. And both riders did a great job to put themselves in strong positions all weekend. With both riders qualifying inside the top ten, Josh in the mix with the lead racers all weekend and Mark bringing home a career best sixth place, it’s hard to not be happy. Congratulations to Troy Herfoss on the well-deserved championship win, for us it means we put our heads down and concentrate on a strong final round of the series.”

Josh Waters: “Qualifying fourth, it was tough for everyone this weekend, with as much importance being on finding a clear spot on track as it was to be able to do a fast lap. I’m happy with the progress we made over the weekend, the team worked hard to help me move forward every time we went out. Luck was on my side in race one since I did crash while in second, but a red flag from an unrelated incident meant the race went back one lap and I retained second place. It took a while for things to get going in the second race with multiple red flags. But once we were off, the pace was strong from the start. Towards the end of the race I was able to push forward to take second again, giving me second overall and keeps me the hunt for a top three finish to the season.”

Markus Chiodo: “After testing went well in the week prior to round six, I was expecting a bit more from myself coming into this round. Friday was not so bad but we didn’t manage to get back to where we were at the test. I was disappointed after Saturdays 2 Qualifying sessions as I still didn’t manage to improve my time, finishing in eighth place. In race one, I managed to get a good start to move to seventh and eventually finishing the race in sixth, which was positive but I was so close to 4th and felt I could have made the passes if it weren’t for the red flag to come out with 3 laps remaining. Race two was disappointing after I came together with one rider which left a hole in my radiator, leaking water onto the rear tyre and causing me to crash out of the race. Im looking forward to Phillip Island. A track I know well, and I believe we well be in the mix for some good results there to finish off the year in a strong way.
