Cameron wraps up 2026 OJC in rollercoaster season finale

By MA Media 0

It’s not often championships are wrapped up after a DNF, but that’s what transpired in the final round of the 2026 BLU CRU Oceania Junior Cup (OJC) at Queensland Raceway from June 26-28.

Thanks to an incredible four-and-a-bit rounds by Thomas Cameron, he went into race two at Queensland Raceway with a commanding 44pt lead over Callum Campbell in the OJC standings.

And just when it appeared another victory was on the cards in race two, the 14-year-old’s final lap took a wild turn: he ran off the circuit and then crashed at turn six, with Patrick Lucchitti and Lewis Birkle also caught up in the mayhem.

Meanwhile, Campbell’s third place finish whittled Cameron’s OJC lead down to 26pts – still enough to wrap up the championship early despite the late dramas!

It was an unorthodox crowning for the eighth OJC champion since 2019, but also a nod to Cameron’s absolute dominance, race craft and mindset: he won six of the nine races before Queensland Raceway, and then added another success in race one on Saturday afternoon.

With race three abandoned after Ryder Plumb and Charli Stephens crashed on lap one and brought out the red flag, Cameron completed the five-round season on 224pts ahead of the ever-exuberant Campbell (198pts), Charlie Nichols (158pts), Ryder McKenna (145pts) and Kael O’Brien (133pts).

Race one at Queensland Raceway was typically tight and tough, with Cameron leading across the line from start to finish to edge out Ryder Chamberlain, Campbell, Birkle, Nichols, Leo Darling and OJC first-timer George Holmkvist in a blanket finish – the last name familiar to dirt track fans as a multiple Australian junior dirt track champion.

In race two – which would prove to be the final for the season – Holmkvist’s stunning OJC debut continued with victory over Chamberlain, Campbell, Nichols, Stephens and McKenna. Holmkvist joined Cameron, McKenna and Campbell on the 2026 winner’s list.
