Herfoss pairs up with Jones at Yamaha Racing Team

By MA Media 0

Three-time ASBK champion Troy Herfoss will join the Yamaha Racing Team (YRT) for the final three rounds of the 2025 mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul (ASBK), starting on September 6-7 at Phillip Island.

The departure of Max Stauffer from the squad opened the door for the 38-year old to join YRT on a YZF-R1M as teammate to Mike Jones in a star-studded line-up.

Herfoss and Jones have been fierce on-track rivals for some time, particularly in 2023 when less than a combined two seconds separated them across seven races.

The opportunity gives Herfoss a chance to race on a Superbike again with no impact on his racing commitments in America.

“I’m really enjoying what I’m doing in the US, but I still love racing a Superbike and when the opportunity came up to race with YRT at the final three rounds, we were able to put something together pretty quickly and make it happen,” he said. “I have seen and raced the R1M enough to know it’s a great bike with lots of positives and my first impressions at a quick team test last week only cemented that.

“Mike has proven that the bike is good, and the team have what it takes to be up the front.

“So far it’s just been getting accustomed to the bike as I have spent most of my time this year on the bagger, but I’m looking forward to getting down to Phillip Island and testing myself in race conditions.”

Jones currently sits second in the championship after a solid round five at Queensland Raceway, while Herfoss will aim to make a first-up impression in his first race weekend on a Yamaha.
