Kawasaki BCperformance’s Staring and Waters Make Big Strides At Darwin

Kawasaki BCperformance Racing Team duo Bryan Staring and Josh Waters delivered their strongest results of the 2021 mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship, presented by Motul, season at Hidden Valley last weekend, capturing fourth and sixth overall.

Aboard the new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR, both riders continued to make strides in developing their machines over the weekend.

Staring qualified in seventh position with a 1m06.123s lap-time, before going on to record a fifth-place finish in the first 16-lap encounter of the round on Saturday afternoon.

A major incident on lap one of race two saw it declared and no points awarded.

In race 3 Staring charged to fourth place, which also earned him P4 overall. He’s now equal fifth in the championship standings.

“We’re constantly making progress and are trying really hard to improve as quickly as possible, so a result like this is really good for us and we can be satisfied with fourth overall,” Staring reflected.

“Of course, we always want to be further up the order, but this weekend has been positive and it’s always good to race along with the Supercars.”

Waters, meanwhile, achieved his best outing yet since joining Kawasaki BCperformance this season, claiming P6 for the round.

After qualifying 11th at 1m06.703s, he was eighth in both races and is now 10th in the Championship.

“I was really happy to finish both races with consistent results this weekend and also to have our best result so far,” Waters said.

“I’m definitely getting more comfortable and this is a track that I like a lot, so hopefully we can keep building from here and get some momentum on our side in the next rounds.”

Kawasaki BCperformance Racing Team owner Kelvin Reilly was pleased with the gains made in the Northern Territory, that consistency providing the crew with valuable data in race-trim and he’s expecting even more in the coming races.

“We achieved better results and definitely improved upon Wakefield Park,” Reilly said.

“Our gap to the front was much less this weekend, Bryan was really strong as ever and it was great to see Josh finish both races well. Overall, it was a good weekend and we’ve still got improvements to make, so there’s more to come, that’s for sure.”

Kawasaki-supported Matt Walters was also in action at the Top End, qualifying in 12th and then taking 11th in race one, but unfortunately crashing out of the final outing for 16th overall.

He has been cleared of any major injuries and now sits 12th in the points, setting his sights on on the next round of ASBK at Morgan Park, Queensland, August 20-22.
