Khouri Wins In Super Tight YMI Supersport 300 Battle

In a scintillating battle from the green flag to the chequered Harry Khouri has taken his first victory for 2020 in the YMI Supersport 300 class at the mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship, presented by Motul, today at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.

Khouri aboard his Yamaha Addicted To Track R3, had to fight tooth and nail for the win, coming under early pressure from Ben Baker on the WNR Yamaha R3, Luke Jhohnston on the Proworx Kawasaki, John Lytras on the Caboolture Yamaha, Laura Brown on the Bare Bird Yamaha and Olly Simpson on the Simpson Crash Yamaha.

The YMI Supersport 300 class put on a show in front of World Superbike teams and ASBK fans and the thousands of fans at Phillip Island with a number of riders crashing out early in the race and others having incidents at the back end of the race  including front runners John Lytras and Laura Brown who were definitely in the battle for the lead early on.

Throughout the race there was plenty of last-minute corner dive bombs from the riders in an effort to get the advantage and jump up a place, which frustrated race winner Khouri as he wasn’t able to get into a clear rhythm.

Khouri crossed the line barely a tyre in front of Ben Baker and Luke Jhonston, with Luke Power on the Proworx Kawasaki fourth and Reece Oughtred fifth.

“Didn’t know what to expect when I came into this race, should I try and stretch a gap but everybody was on me,” Khouri said after the race.

“I came into that last lap and put my head down and managed to come away with the win.”
