Shaw Improves As He Aims For Top Ten Finish

Yannis Shaw’s Team Specialist Suzuki continue to make solid improvements boosting their hopes of a top ten finish in the mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship, presented by Motul.

A new team to the Championship in 2021, it has been making solid progress on its bike at each and every round.

After an incident during practice session 2 on Friday at Round 4 Hidden Valley Raceway, Darwin, Yanni’s chief mechanic Doug Bloomer and the team worked hard to put the GSX-R1000RR back into shape.

Yanni managed to qualify on the sixth row in 18th and after some on-track battles managed to score a 16th and 13th placing, to end the weekend in 14th overall, with Yannis happy with the results and progress the team is making.

“The Team and I are super happy with my results from the weekend. I was able to keep improving and it was great to look at the time sheets and continue to see time shaved off each lap,” he said.

“I had an off in Practice 2, but I didn’t let that shake my confidence and the crew were so quick to get the bike ready for qualifying, where I ended up with my best lap of the weekend.

“Big shoutout to Chief Mechanic, Doug Bloomer, and the entire Team Specialist Suzuki crew.

“Darwin is always a great experience but battling the heat can be tough. I really enjoyed the weekend, showing the Supercars audience just how good superbike racing is.

“It was tough to see Mike (Jones) and Herf (Troy Herfoss) sustain bad crashes on the weekend. Wishing them both a speedy recovery”

Team Specialist Suzuki Principal, Scott Noble said he was happy with the teams progression.

“The team was able to get great data from Yanni and make improvements in every session.

“It was a bit of a whirlwind Sunday with Race 2 being declared and Race 3 red-flagged, so we weren’t quite able to work towards a top-ten finish, but that remains our goal for our debut ASBK season.

“Our crew worked hard all weekend and battled the heat, but we were able to come away with some points and enjoyed the action and atmosphere of the Supercars.”
