Archie McDonald awarded Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship

By MA Media 0

Circuit racing star Archie McDonald has received a scholarship from the Sport Australia Hall of Fame (SAHOF) to assist in the next phase of his flourishing career.

The precociously talented and energetic 19-year-old, who has been combining Australian and European campaigns over the last two years, will receive a $2500 sporting expenses grant from the SAHOF under the Scholarship & Mentoring Program – backed by the Australian Sports Commission – to help continue his motorcycle racing journey in 2026, as well as additional high-level support and guidance.

Being a successful SAHOF Scholarship recipient means more than support, it’s recognition of the hard work, sacrifice, and passion I put into my sport. It gives me the chance to learn from Australia’s greatest, to grow not only as an athlete but as a person, and to use my journey to inspire others,” said McDonald.

“Success is making the most of this opportunity, carrying the values of humility, respect, and perseverance, and showing that with dedication, dreams can become reality. It’s an honour that motivates me to give back to sport and represent SAHOF with pride on and off the track.”

The other 2026 Tier 3 scholarship holders are Caterina Longhi (artistic swimming), Lucy Darragh (surfing), Emma Putt (water polo), Bilal Cetin (wrestling), Arika Shetty (badminton – para), Toby Clack (eight ball), Anastasiia Golubeva (figure skating), Nicholas Odgers (modern pentathlon), Lucas Furlan (shooting), Joanne Joseph (squash), Gabriella Blewitt (taekwondo), Oliver Fanshawe (tennis – para), Rory Meehan (sailing), Angus Cormack (judo) and Delta Amidzovski (athletics).

A total of 32 athletes from 32 different sports will share $150,000 in funding, spread across three tiers.

McDonald follows in the recent footsteps of 2025 SAHOF recipient Danielle McDonald, now competing on the American enduro scene and representing Australia in the International Six Days Enduro; Angus Grenfell, a former JuniorGP World Championship competitor; and current Moto3 campaigner Jacob Roulstone.

Archie McDonald is currently running eighth in the 2025 European Stock title despite a litany of mechanical and bike preparation issues over the last two rounds, with a best result of second at Jerez. He also won a round at Portimao in 2024.

Locally, he’s preparing for a final round battle against teammate Jack Mahaffy and Oli Simpson in the Kawasaki Superport Championship at The Bend (SA) from November 7-9 – with the hard-charging Albury (NSW) rider incredibly still in the mix after missing a round due to European commitments.

With an eye to helping develop Australia’s next wave of circuit racing stars, McDonald has also taken on an ambassadorial role with the entry-level BLU CRU Oceania Junior Cup in 2025 – a category where he began his tarmac journey after a successful junior dirt track career.
