Voight clinches 2026 ASBK Championship in style at QR

By MA Media 0

Twenty-year-old Harrison Voight put the final gloss on a sensational season to wrap up the 2026 Penrite Australian Superbike Championship presented by Pirelli (ASBK) at Queensand Raceway on Sunday, June 28.

Voight’s second place finish in the opening 16-lap race behind Cru Halliday (Stop and Seal Ducati) was enough to build an unassailable lead in the SW-Motech Superbike class over McMartin Racing Ducati teammate Josh Waters, making him the second youngest Superbike champion since 1989.

Faced with a wet track in race two, Voight, with one eye on the continuation of his European Moto2 campaign next weekend, opted to remain on the sidelines as veteran Glenn Allerton (Superbike Advocates Racing Ducati) scored a stirring win.

Voight finished the five-round Superbike title on 218pts ahead of Waters (208pts) and the fast-finishing Halliday (177pts).

“It felt great to get it done in the first race,” said Voight. “It’s been a nerve-wracking week and I’ve felt all the emotions.

“A big thank you to everyone who has helped me get here over the last couple of years.

“When I started road racing I idolised the likes of Josh Waters, and he’s helped me a lot as a teammate over the last two years.”

Mike Jones (Yamaha Racing Team) got the holeshot in race one, with Allerton and Halliday slotting into second and third as Voight also started to get a real hurry along as well – he set a new lap record of 1:07.093 on lap three.

Allerton was shuffled back to fourth position a few laps later, and on lap eight Halliday and Voight finally broke Jones’ resolve to make their way to the sharp end of the pack.

That set the tone for the balance of the 16-lapper – with the championship-winning Voight the biggest beneficiary – with Waters finishing in fourth ahead of Allerton, JJ Nahlous (Yamaha Racing Team), Cameron Dunker (Blue Marlin Pools Racing Yamaha) and Anthony West (DesmoSport Ducati).

It was Halliday’s fifth Superbike victory, following on from his fifth career pole position on Saturday.

A notable absence from race one was John Lytras (Caboolture Yamaha), who was grounded by engine gremlins that also kept him out of race two.

It was a case of déjà vu for Allerton, who won the corresponding race in wet conditions last season.

But it certainly wasn’t a cake walk in the greasy conditions, with Superbike rookie Olly Simpson (DesmoSport Ducati) checking out from the start.

It took Allerton until lap 14 to pass Simpson en route to his 28th Superbike victory, with Jones claiming bronze from Waters, Halliday, Dunker, New Zealander Morgan McLaren-Wood (MotoGO Yamaha) and Nahlous.

McLaren-Wood was a revelation, circulating as high as third before running wide at turn three and dropping back.

Dunker finished fourth in the championship on 175pts from Allerton (171pts), Jones (165pts), Nahlous (153pts) and Jack Favelle (Addicted to Track Yamaha, 142pts).

The 2028 ASBK Championship will begin alongside the 2026 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island from October 22-25.
